  • 1.  Who does or carries out the recruitment?

    The employer does the final recruitment but the Government of Tuvalu through its Labour Department and the NZ Government help facilitate this process. Village leaders are sometimes involved in the initial selection in Tuvalu before the list is sent to the Employers

  • 2.  What is the recruitment process?

    1 – Those who want to apply under RSE will register with the Department of Labour, they will have to provide a copy of either a passport or birth certificate, 1 passport photo and 1 full body length photo, CV, Copies of any certificates or qualifications obtained.

     

    2 – The information in 1. Above will be made into profiles and submitted to the selection panel that includes Island community leaders and representative from the Department of Labour.

     

    3 - DoLabour receives ATR from MBIE office, DoLabour will liaise with the Employer on preferences on recruiting whether DoL will do the recruiting or Employer is willing to carry out recruitment with assistance from DoLabour.

     

    4 - Recruitment is made, normally Employer would prefer to pay for air fares for workers upfront for both ways and workers will repay while working on contract.  Mr Apple recently pay for air fares and visa fees.

     

    5 - Visa applications are prepared i.e., passports, passport photos, chest X-rays, visa fees, air fares, advance money, sign contracts, visa application forms. Once ready applications are sent to THC in Suva to be lodged. Standard turnaround time is 14 working days.

     

    6 - Pre-departure orientation is delivered to the group of workers expecting to depart for NZ.

  • 3  What is the travel time from a worker's home, to the capital?

    Some workers travel for about 2 days to get to the capital but they can take up to days or weeks waiting for the selection process to be complete.

  • 4  How is the Visa arrangement handled?

    Visa applications are prepared i.e., passports, passport photos, chest X-rays, visa fees, air fares, advance money, sign contracts, visa application forms. Once ready applications are sent to THC in Suva to be lodged. Standard turnaround time is 14 working days.

  • 5  What is normal visa turn around period?

    For a large group can be one week

  • 6  Who pays the visa fee, transit or advance money?

    The Government assists with paying advance money but the workers are obligated to reimburse this money

  • 7  Please describe physical builds of Tuvaluans?

    Large big bone people.
